Emma Barty (BSc. FCA, CTA)

Director

Tell us about your role

I am Director at HaesCooper and look after a variety of clients within the practice. I am passionate about providing a proactive service to my clients. I love really getting to know our clients, so I feel like part of their business rather than external to it. It feels great when my advice leads to clients making sensible and tax efficient decisions.

What’s your background?

I qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers, Leeds, in September 2000. After qualifying, I gained experience in financial accounting and business planning within a number of businesses of varying sizes across several sectors, such as retail (Sainsburys Plc) and FMCG (Burtons Foods Ltd). To add another string to my bow, I also qualified as a Chartered Tax Advisor in January 2012.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

With three children in three different schools and a husband who also runs his own business, spare time is not something I am used to! But if I do find myself with free time, there is nothing I enjoy more than a family dog walk to one of our lovely local pubs. I am also a keen (but slow) runner.

Head of Accounts

Tell us about your role

I look after our clients’ wide range of accounting needs. One morning I might be on a zoom call with a client discussing their business plan and in the afternoon preparing a cash flow forecast for another. Day to day I help new clients get started with accounting software, making sure they are registered with HMRC if their business is new, guiding them every step of the way. I also work with our team of bookkeepers and accountants to make sure all of our clients’ annual accounts, tax returns and VAT returns are filed on time.

What’s your background?

I qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers, Jersey, in 2007, after gaining considerable experience auditing a number of financial clients. After qualifying, I moved to London and spent a year as an Assistant Manager in the banking department at the audit firm, Mazars LLP. Here I gained a diploma in management whilst managing a portfolio of clients. Before returning to practice with HaesCooper in 2016, I was the Finance Manager at The Pensions & Lifetime Savings Association for five years.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I live in Kent and enjoy walking the dog with my family on the weekends, exploring the Ashdown forest.

Office Administrator

Tell us about your role

My role of Office Administrator means I am here to help with keeping the office running smoothly.  This includes assisting the team with new clients, directing phone calls and many varied administrative tasks to support the accountancy team in their jobs.

What’s your background?

I graduated from UCL with a Chemistry degree and worked for a number of years in the food manufacturing industry.  I took a career break when I had children, then spent 7 years working as a medical secretary for the anaesthetic department in local hospitals.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

My ‘spare’ time is mostly spent running around after my two teenage children, husband and two cats.  But I also make time to tap dance with a local group, performing on stage occasionally! And I love keeping a bit fit by going to boot camp with friends.

Theresa Mason

Accountant / HaesCooper Finance Manager

Tell us about your role

I have two hats at HaesCooper!  I am the Finance Manager (which involves keeping our internal books in order) and I also work in a client facing role as an Accountant.  I love dealing with people and am lucky to have a lot of involvement with our clients.  My role includes providing QuickBooks training and assistance, setting up new bookkeeping processes and managing our bookkeeping team, preparing VAT returns, Management Accounts and Annual Accounts for a variety of clients (from Sole Traders and Partnerships to Limited Companies).

What’s your background?

I have a BA (hons) degree in Business Studies and worked for many years with a global supply chain/logistics company. I held positions working as an Analyst in their European head office, Customer Service Manager and Sales Development Manager. After taking some time out to stay at home with my children, I re-trained and joined HaesCooper in 2014.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I mostly hold the role of “mum, taxi, chef and general concierge” to my two teenage children, but I do get time to myself occasionally! I play a Surdo drum with a local Samba band, performing all over the country and internationally. I also love map-reading and finding new routes to walk with our family dog, friends and family.

Aneta Wieckowska

Payroll Administrator and Senior Bookkeeper

Tell us about your role

I am responsible for the smooth running of the payroll function for all our clients. Processing payroll correctly is so important, and many small businesses do not have the resources to do this themselves – so this is where I come in!  Day to day I work hard to understand our clients’ payroll needs so that I can process their payroll reliably, accurately and on a timely basis whilst also offering advice along the way on things such as pension requirements and the minimum wage.

When I don’t have my head in payroll, I also carry out bookkeeping for a number of clients, and I specialise in using Xero software to do this, although I am happy to use other software as and when required!

What’s your background?

I have worked in accountancy for the past 7 years and joined HaesCooper in June 2023. I love learning and finding new payroll software so much that I have become a ProAdvisor at QuickBooks. I want to start learning for my payroll technician certificate in September 2023. I also aspire to begin my studies for my level 3 AAT qualification.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

After work, I like to unwind by reading books ranging from crime to romance. I also enjoy staying active by swimming and going on hikes especially in the Lake District during the summer months. I have no choice but to stay active as I enjoy trying new foods too!
